HAVE YOU SEEN YOUR SITE TRAFFIC TAKE A NOSEDIVE?

Our favorite author-investor-influencer-marketing guru, Neil Patel, is back at it again and his newest content is hitting home, far and wide.
When COVID went global, website traffic dropped uniformly, and it dropped across all sectors- absolutely no one was spared from the uncontrollable rollercoaster of website traffic. But luckily, we saw a major rebound in e-commerce, and it happened in record numbers that we have (literally!) never seen before.
But -once again- the tides have changed, restrictions are easing, we have viable options to better protect ourselves, and people want out.
“Tourists Are Back With a Vengeance”
After months of record highs, web traffic numbers are falling, and it’s happening pretty rapidly, just a few exceptions…
Travel and Leisure
Data provided by consulting firm McKinsey & Company showed, on average, that the US is seeing 2,000,000 passengers a day, versus 90,000 a day during the same time period in 2020*. That is massive.
We also saw some minor growth in the retail sector, but hey- who didn’t fall victim to Prime Day?
What Does Google Have to Do With This?
Well, that’s a tricky question- it may have played a minute role in the drop in traffic. Google did make some changes to their algorithm, but with this change, some sites saw a drop, but just as many sites saw an increase in traffic.
Neil is quoted as saying “We are seeing traffic drops from direct traffic, referral traffic and even paid ads for keywords that have little to no seasonality.”
Put bluntly?
We just don’t know why this is happening, and truthfully, we may never know.
The best thing we can possibly do? Don’t stress about it.
Admittedly, easier said than done, but relax- I promise, things will rebound, just give it a little time.
