5 Creative Interactive Websites

As designers, creativity is an enormous part of who we are.

When we are able to “unleash’ our creative sides, the sky is the limit on where we can take a project. We also get pretty geeked out on other people’s creativity! Thankfully, the internet is full of creative individuals (on so many levels)! This week, we wanted to discuss interactive websites to show how design really is only limited by your imagination!

When we started digging, it was surprising how hard it was to find 5 interactive websites that we actually thought were good enough to highlight. Many sites were way too complicated, too slow and cumbersome, or didn’t demonstrate a clear purpose (having a skilled designer is a BIG part of interactive designs…and we know a few πŸ˜‰).

If you are going to create an interactive website, you need to keep it very simple or it could become overwhelming to the user. Be clever but clear. It’s also good to have traditional navigation to get to the relevant information.

Many interactive sites are not mobile friendly either. Most users are accessing websites from their phones or tablets so a site that isn’t mobile friendly is deadly. That being said, it’s still fun to see the creativity of some web designers and developers! Take a minute and check out these sites, we promise, they’re worth a look!

#1 hifly.aero

Hifly is a company specializing in leasing airplanes for airliners that need seasonal support to meet their quota. Their website has a variety of unique visualization methods showing their products, as well as seamless motion graphic transitions as you navigate the site! Overall a site like this is sure to give off a professional image and be memorable to potential clients.

#2 bstd.ru

Brand Studio is a creative web development company- and it certainly shows with their maximalist website. This website uses mainly click and drag navigation- making it sometimes hard to find information on the site, but overall leading to an impressive display of technical skill and artistic expression. And for a company that helps develop websites, apps, and interactive digital experiences, it’s essential to have.

#3 species-in-pieces.com

This digital exhibit by Brian James shows 30 endangered species visualized with 30 different “pieces” of triangle shapes. Cycle through and watch the animals transition to one another as the pieces are re-utilized. Each piece is CSS based, which allows the shapes to be given coordinate points and colors that can be changed. A site like this shows how effective creative web design can be to engage users with a topic!

#4 noel.heschung.com

Back to business oriented examples- this site shows the history of a European luxury shoemaker. The user takes control in moving through the years- from their start in 1934 onwards with time taken to illustrate the development of the Heschung brand. Information presented like this can help keep your audience engaged while showing your brand’s personality!

#5 overgrowncomic.com

Finally, Overgrown is a webcomic by Laya Rose about a girl lost in the forest. This site implements various scrolling styles, user input, and more to present a comic almost like a web game. While webcomics aren’t what our customers are usually presenting, seeing how motion graphics can let a user navigate a website is sure to inspire innovative new ideas for your site!
