For example, our online address is woodchuckarts.com. When building your home online, you will have to purchase and register an address. There’s a lot of info that goes into deciding how you’ll purchase your domain- but here’s answers to some of the most common questions that we get!
Where do I purchase a domain name from?
Domain names are purchased at domain registrars and there are many to choose from. Here is a list from Forbes that we paired down to ones we have experience with:

Another place domains are often registered is through your hosting company. We use A2 Hosting to host our websites and we purchase all of our domain names through them.
Can I transfer my domain to another registrar after I have purchased it?
You can transfer domain names from one registrar to another for free at anytime if you decide to move them. Your website may experience some downtime during the transfer process, but hopefully not more than a few hours and probably less.
Can I keep my domain name on a different platform from my hosting company?
You can also keep your domain name on a different platform than your host. For example, we have a few clients that have their domain names at GoDaddy, but we host and manage their website through A2 hosting.
How much are domain names?
Getting people to your website is one of the biggest hurdles in e-commerce, so anything you can do to boost traffic goes a long way. Here are a few high-bidding domains from name.com:
- Cars.com – $872 million.
- CarINsurance.com – $49.7 million.
- Insurance.com – $35.6 million.
- VacationRentals.com – $35 million.
These domains have such high prices because they are extremely common searches, meaning they will surely get tons of visitors. A big investment, but an even bigger payoff potentially!
